Valentine’s Day is fast approaching and maybe you haven’t really given much thought about your love life. Consequently, maybe you’ve been obsessed about finding the right match but just haven’t struck luck as of yet. Regardless of the reason for why you find yourself single during this very love month, the status of your mouth and the way that your pearly whites look could actually land you a date. And the reason behind all this is actually easy to understand – our increasingly self-conscious society is very much attracted to people who look beautiful. However, how exactly could your teeth stop you from finding the love of your life?
Researchers have found the link; if you have horrible teeth then you’re less likely to smile, and we all know that a simple smile could lead to all the romantic things. According to a recent survey, 57 percent of the respondents have said that having missing teeth and being plagued by oral health problems does not make them look desirable.
Luckily, if you do decide to do something about the state of your teeth, your desirability won’t suffer a lot even if you opt for very conspicuous treatments. According to the same survey, only two percent of the respondents thought that dental fillings were least desirable while braces are only undesirable to six percent of the respondents. The said survey was conducted by the British Dental Health Foundation and involved a total of 1,000 respondents.
Researchers claim that this widespread perception about what beauty with regard to smiles is very much influenced by our society and the images that we consume from the media. People look up to celebrities as status of beauty and attribute their looks as the standard of what should be. It’s no question as to why people these days think of white, luminous teeth as a huge factor of a desirable smile.
Furthermore, in the same manner that people diet and exercise in order to shrink their waistlines, teeth whitening procedures have become a dime a dozen. In-house dental whitening procedures could give you a brighter smile in just a couple of minutes. However, if you want to preserve that white smile of yours, you need to be very particular about your diet and stay away from darkly pigmented foods like coffee and tea.
But what if you don’t care about improving your teeth? Will you still be able to get a date for Valentine’s Day? Given that the survey also indicates that 69 percent of respondents don’t want to date anyone with bad teeth, then your chances may be slim.
